My Side of the Mountain
Of all the books I have recommended to y'all, this is the one I would most dub as a classic.
"A classic is an outstanding example of a particular style; something of lasting worth or with a timeless quality; of the first or highest quality, class, or rank – something that exemplifies its class."
This is a book that you could read over and over again, and still feel that pull toward the book and its characters. I lost count of how many times I'd read it quite some time ago.
My Side of the Mountain follows the adventures of Sam Gribley, a city kid who leaves his family to make a life in the wild. His adventures, and the subsequent changes in his character, are absolutely fascinating.
The trilogy:
My Side of the Mountain
The Far Side of the Mountain
Frightful's Mountain
So, whether you are going camping, or curling up by a fire, I strongly suggest that you read at least the first book in this trilogy. And who knows, you might create your own adventure.
