Rascal (Calling All Readers)
Rascal, the raccoon, is a baby when Sterling finds him, but he quickly grows- and not just physically. He has a personality to rival most humans. This autobiography doesn't feel like it could be real, but it is, and this adds a whole new dimension to the story. I can't say too much without spoiling, but the book is very memorable and sweet.
I don't often read outside of the Fantasy and Sci-Fi genres, but this book was really wonderful. I didn't at first realize that the story was true, but Rascal is in fact an autobiography, written by Sterling North.
I think this book would be a really sweet family read, but also just as rewarding to read on your own.
I think that humans are drawn to books about animals. They are fascinating, and we just love to put ourself into their shoes (or whatever) and imagine what it might be like to be something else. This book has elements of this, but is also about so many other things. It is a wonderful mix.
I think that anyone, no matter what they normally read, will enjoy this book.
