The Mysterious Benedict Society
The Mysterious Benedict Society, and series of the same name, have been one of my favorites for a really long time. We are now reading it with my book club, and I am very excited!
This series is unlike any other children's book I have read before.
For one, it has a moral-of-the-story approach to things, but instead of one focused quality it covers dozens. From friendship to fears, it really talks about everything.
The Mysterious Benedict Society is science-fiction, and aimed toward a younger group than I would normally read, but it actually a lot deeper if you think about it.
The protagonists are engaging and fun, and have a whimsical side. I have always found the combination refreshing. I read a lot of dark, often sad things, and the bright tone really is a breath of fresh air.
Trenton Lee Stewart has an upbeat way of writing that really draws you in. I meant to read ten pages today, and completely on accident ended up thirty pages later.
So, if you haven't read it already, I really suggest that you do. Its the kind of thing that sticks with you for the rest of your life, simply happy and bright, whatever else you go through.
