If you are interested in classics, chances are that you have read this book. You enjoyed it at the time, though you may not remember much.
I recently read it as a possible book club book, and am so glad I did. It has the charm of a fairy tale, but the the way the story is presented, second- and third-hand, is really well done.
The characters are really engaging, and you want them to succeed. Despite how small the setting and cast seems, I got into it as much as I do with massive, epic fantasy series. It is short and sweet.

The story the mentor tells is a recollection of a story she herself was told as a child. The twisting of the facts, through all the different people the story has passed to, is absolutely fascinating. I think that the main part of the story isn't written down, but rather happens when you think about the book. The premise is fascinating.
